1 year Tier 3 Oxfam funded Project

 This project will be working with Ash Lea Special School for pupils with severe learning difficulties in Cotgrave Nottinghamshire beginning in Sept 2007.

The SAGE project will enable Special Needs practitioners at Ash Lea Special School , to prepare students for life as global citizens. This is being facilitated through INSET provision for staff (teachers and TAs) to reflect and share existing and new practice leading to therapeutic and curriculum based work with students.

SAGE will further embed the global dimension work that occurs as a result of a long standing link with The Lutheran Special School in Kenya in to the curriculum and sustain that work. It will also enhance pupil voice and participatory skills through the use of participatory methodologies and therapeutic workshops engaging with the Global Dimension using providers from African Ark and the Therapeutic Drumming Foundation both based in Nottingham . Potential activities will include the creation of identity boxes, body mapping, cultural activities including art, music and cookery as well as participatory global education activities around themes of poverty and injustice.

This is a one year project that is currently being further developed in to an application to The Department for International Development's ‘Development Awareness Fund' for a major grant for a 3 year project to involve more schools over 3 years beginning in April 2008 including an international continuing professional develop.
