Current Projects
'The World Came to my School Today'
2010 – 2013 (funded by DFID)
The aim of this project is to bring together the global education, community cohesion and children’s rights agendas into a coherent framework that can support schools in enriching their curriculum, policies and ethos for teaching and learning in the 21st century. The project works directly with teaching staff from 20 primary schools in the Nottingham/shire area. The ultimate beneficiaries are nearly 5,000 pupils who will develop their understanding, skills and values to become active citizens at the local and global levels, working towards a more sustainable, fair and peaceful society. As part of this project, schools are being encouraged to apply for the prestigious UNICEF’s Rights Respecting School Award.
'DiverCity Nottingham'
2010 - 2012 (funded by Nottingham City Council)
The project aims to contribute to community cohesion within schools by developing a website that enables Year 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 pupils to explore how Nottingham's culturally diverse communities (and individuals) have shaped the city historically, and how they continue to do so in contemporary society. Project activities have included:
'Global Youth Work'
2009 – 2011 (funded by DFID)
The aim of this project is to incorporate the principles of global education into youth work. The project works directly with youth work practitioners from statutory and voluntary organisations in the Nottingham/shire area. The main objectives include developing practitioners’ understanding of global development issues and global education; increasing their awareness of global education resources for young people; and fostering their skills for delivering global youth work effectively. The ultimate beneficiaries are young people who will develop their critical thinking skills and confidence to challenge inequalities, human rights abuses, and unsustainable practices locally and globally.
'Global Voices'
2009 – 2011 (funded by DFID)
This project supported practitioners from special schools in the Nottingham/shire area in developing a global education approach to their practice, particularly through partnership work with local artists and e-learning consultants. Practitioners had the opportunity to explore global development issues through the International School Award (ISA) and other relevant initiatives. Moreover, student voice has being fostered in relation to local and global issues around poverty, inequalities and injustice. More specifically, the project has enabled young learners with learning difficulties to actively engage with development issues concerning education for SEN pupils in the Global South.
